The Grammy Awards

This past weekend there was another awards ceremony for a bunch of people who think they deserve some reward for doing absolutely nothing and making a lot of money for it.  One of the awards given is intended to highlight a specific work that was created by whoever possesses the weakest mind and talent.  It’s otherwise known as, “album of the year”.

grammy_instrumentAccording to numerous sources who cover that crap, the moment of acceptance for weakest mind and talent was almost tainted by another member of the craft who thought they would voice their displeasure and relay their opinion of who they clearly felt possessed much weaker mind and talent and truly deserved the award.

Okay…I’ve probably lost many of you so let me try to make it more clear for the mentally challenged in the herd…

Some guy who goes by the tradename “Beck” won album of the year.  Some other nutjob who goes by the tradename “Kayne West” started to approach the microphone when “Beck” was giving his acceptance speech.  After the ceremony was over the no-talent, Kardashian wannbe “Kanye West” had this to say:

“Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration.  And we, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

Ohhhhhh … so many things to say…  Where  —  do  —  I  —  begin?

To take some advice from Glenda the good witch on the Wizard of Oz, it’s always best to start at the beginning, so here we go!

“Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face…”

Kanye West of Crap wants to talk about “respecting the craft” and “smacking people in their face” yet, blatantly, he smacks those who are in the craft by telling them they aren’t worthy of the award they received?  How is that being “respectful” to the “Art” or craftsmanship of your peers?

Oh…and the fact that he refers to the garbage that is put out by record labels today as ‘art’…  well … that’s just irony at it’s best and funny as hell!

“…deliver monumental feats of music…”

grammy_claptonWe all knew that Kim Kardashian didn’t marry Kayne for his boyish good looks…that much is obvious…but what we didn’t know is that Kanye has a sense of humor the likes of Yogi Berra.  (For those who don’t know who Yogi Berra is…he accidentally coined the phrases, “if the going gets tough, the tough get going.”  “If you don’t know where you’re going, you might wind up someplace else.” and “Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half physical.”  Click >here< for more.)

Let’s be crystal clear here…Kanye and I differ on our definitions of “monumental feats of music”.  For me…Mozart, Beethoven, Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King to name a few, have all produced monumental feats of music.  Not Beyonce…not Madonna…not Katy Perry and definitely not Kanye West.

Most of today’s music is a backbeat or rhythm section with a crappy catch phrase repeated over and over again to brainwash the unsuspecting in the herd.  It doesn’t take talent to create it, just a person with a technological mind who can throw in the right sequence of fillers.  It’s not monumental feats of music.  It’s regurgitated and chewed as cud.  Sadly, the undereducated in the herd don’t know the difference and never will.

Which is a great segue for this comment…

“…you’re disrespectful to inspiration.”

grammy_welkYou know…inspiration comes in many forms…for me, it comes from reading pathetic news articles about pathetic people who shouldn’t be allowed to freely walk among the human race, and I feel inspired to write about their pathetic lives.  Hence, the reason for this post.  But how in the world could anyone disrespect inspiration?  That’s impossible and therefore this is one of the stupidest comments I’ve heard this year.

“…we, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

Okay…okay…okay…we get it…Kanye West THINKs he’s a musician, but please stop already.  I mean, really!   Kanye West lumping himself in with musicians is like Ellen the Degenerate saying she’s a comedian (by the way…she’s not.  The woman is not funny.)

But even more so is the fact that he states musicians “have to inspire people who go to work every day and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.

Musicians don’t “have to” inspire people who go to work everyday.  I’m thinking paying the bills, putting food on the table and taking care of your family is enough to inspire all of us who have to go to work everyday.  The music we listen to is just a filler and makes the day a little less dull.

However, he is right about one thing.  Beyoncé’s album does make me feel like it takes me to another place…a place of regret and self loathing that I can never return from.

For that…I say thank you for giving me one more topic of pathetic to write about.

Grammy winners and losers are pathetic.

  1. I’m pretty sure sometime in 2007 or 2008 Kanye West said something about how he was filming a music video that was a cinematographic masterpiece, or something like that. He mentioned a mountain, Pamela Anderson, and a helicopter.

I try not to keep up with pop culture, or at least I won’t admit that there is one celebrity blog that I regularly read for a giggle, not really knowing anything about these people in detail, but it seems Kanye hasn’t changed significantly.

  2. I love the passion of this post. Now what we need is a global intervention to get Mr. Kardashian and his porn star, oops, I mean wife to fade into the background where they belong. Keep writing the way you write! I need people like you in my life!

  3. I too think Ellen is un-funny. Her “jokes” are mean. But her show producers find ways to help people so she is becoming more popular but that’s just a vehicle to perpetuate her meanness.
I caught a little piece of the Grammy show and screwed up my face during most of it.
I had never heard the name Beck until this whole mess but then I don’t listen to music the way most people do. I downloaded John Legend’s All of Me and play it on repeat if ever I need a filler. Otherwise, I relish the opportunity to flood the silence with my own thoughts. Pathetic?

  4. I’m WAY too old to watch the Grammys as I don’t know who anyone is anymore. Mind you neither does some of Kanye West’s fans. Apparently he collaborated with Paul McCartney on something,, and one of his fans thought that Paul ‘would go far’! PATHETIC!

  5. I haven’t ever watched the Grammy awards, well, maybe I did in the 70s or 80s, can’t remember. I take offense to your referring to the “herd” repeatedly (just kidding). As for them bringing a little sunshine to our otherwise meaningless existences (isn’t that the subtext of what Kanye is saying), I say, Up yours, Kanye!

    • HAHA. My apologies for using your surname in my posts, but “the herd” is just too funny…no offense intended.

And don’t worry…by not watching the grammy’s you’re saving yourself from the shame and regret of losing three hours of your life. lol.

      You tell him!

    • I don’t understand why the industry isn’t blackballing this guy. I mean, seriously! he’s a horrible person and in this day and age of anti-bullying, how is he still making money?

      • No kidding! I don’t know how anyone thinks he has talent. He spends so much time telling everyone what a genius he is, maybe he has magic powers of persuasion and people have actually begun to believe him.

        • Ya, no kidding! I’ve never heard anything he’s ever done and if my life depended on whether or not I could name one title of what he’s made, I’d surly lose my life because I can’t think of one song that man has created. Also, anytime we hear about him, it’s that he’s done something stupid, i.e., married a kardashian, hit a guy for no good reason, stormed on stage to rant about something that makes no sense…he’s worthless and somehow has a lot of money because of it. go figure.

  6. Hmm, who are these people you’re talking about? I seem to remember hearing the name Kanye West somewhere, but I had no idea he was a musician. I thought he was Mr. Kardashian. And isn’t Beck a soccer player or something? Besides, Beyonce is the giant metal chicken at The Bloggess’ house. Who would give a chicken a recording contract? I’ll stick with all those real artists you named and throw in Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones….

As you can probably tell, I didn’t watch the Grammy’s and I can’t remember the last time I watched an awards show. No. Interest. Whatsoever.

  7. LOL! Well said.

“…we, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day..”

Oh good grief! Do we not suffer enough? Why would you try to destroy what is left of our meaningless Monday morning lives? That is just needlessly cruel.

All is not lost however. Hollyweird has not yet caught on, but one reason we pursue empty headed celebrities with such enthusiasm is because we like to take comfort in the fact that we are not them.
